Butu Wargun (Pemulwuy the Rainbow Warrior), 2020

Artist: Jason Wing

Location: WestConnex

Jason Wing’s mural ‘Butu Wargun’ is one of the 18 commissioned artworks that form the WestConnex Public Art Program – ‘Canal to Creek’ and connects the new cultural landscape of contemporary artworks between Bexley North and Beverly Hills. The 140m (originally) long and 7m high concrete wall is a freehand spray painted wall art stencil work. This artwork pays homage to Pemulway the Rainbow Warrior, a Bidjigal man and one of the most significant activists and political figures in the late 18th century.

Painting by Maddison Gibbs and Jason Wing.
